Combat Patrol Box Contents: Leagues of Votann vs T'au Empire

Two Combat Patrols, Two Very Different Forces

If you're choosing between the Leagues of Votann and T'au Empire Combat Patrol boxes, the decision comes down to army style, model count, and how much customisation you want. The Leagues of Votann box gives you 19 durable, heavily armoured infantry led by a mighty hero, while the T'au Empire box offers 25 models including a transport vehicle and drones for a mobile, shooting-focused force. Both are complete Combat Patrol forces with rules available as free downloads, but they play and build very differently.

What's Inside Each Box

• Warhammer 40000: Combat Patrol: Leagues Of Votann: 19 plastic miniatures: 1x Einhyr Champion, 3x Brôkhyr Thunderkyn, 5x Einhyr Hearthguard, and 10x Hearthkyn Warriors. This is a compact, elite force where every model is a sturdy infantry unit, ideal if you prefer a low model count with high durability.

• Warhammer 40000: Combat Patrol: T'au Empire: 25 multipart plastic miniatures: 1x Commander in Enforcer Battlesuit (or Coldstar), 1x Devilfish, 10x Breacher Fire Warriors (or Strike Team), 10x Pathfinders, and 7x Drones (5 Tactical, 1 Recon, 1 Support Turret). The T'au box gives you a mix of infantry, a vehicle, and drones, offering more variety and a higher model count for a slightly lower price.

Unit Roles and Playstyle

• Leagues of Votann: Tough, Close-Range Specialists: The Einhyr Champion leads from the front in heavy exoarmour, accompanied by Einhyr Hearthguard bodyguards. Hearthkyn Warriors claim objectives while Brôkhyr Thunderkyn provide ranged support. This force leans toward resilience and controlled aggression.
• T'au Empire: Mobile, Combined-Arms Firepower: Commander Cloudspear in her Enforcer Battlesuit leads high-risk raids, Pathfinders mark targets, Breachers mobilise in the Devilfish transport, and drones add tactical flexibility. The T'au box emphasises mobility and ranged firepower.

Customisation and Build Options

• Leagues of Votann: The Einhyr Champion can be built with a mass hammer or darkstar axe, two overhead crest options, two heads, and two RAM shield designs. Brôkhyr Thunderkyn can each be armed with bolt cannons, graviton blast cannons, or SP conversion beamers. Hearthguard can take EtaCarn plasma guns or volkanite disintegrators, and concussion or plasma blade gauntlets, plus an optional squad leader with graviton hammer. There are 19 interchangeable heads, including male, female, and fully closed visors. Hearthkyn Warriors can be armed with Autoch-pattern bolt pistols or ion blasters.
• T'au Empire: The Commander can alternatively be built as a Coldstar Battlesuit. Breacher Fire Warriors can be built as a Strike Team. The box includes 7 drone models for use as tokens. The record does not list further weapon options for other units, so check the full kit for details.

Price and Value

• Warhammer 40000: Combat Patrol: Leagues Of Votann: Catalog price USD 119.00 (comparison price USD 170.00). The Leagues of Votann box offers a saving compared to buying the kits individually, but at a higher price than the T'au box.
• Warhammer 40000: Combat Patrol: T'au Empire: Catalog price USD 107.52 (comparison price USD 168.00). The T'au box is the cheaper option and still provides a complete Combat Patrol force with more models.

Assembly and Painting

Both boxes require assembly and are supplied unpainted. The Leagues of Votann kit comprises 382 plastic components, 4x Citadel 40mm Round Bases, 5x Citadel 32mm Round Bases, 10x Citadel 28.5mm Round Bases, and 2x Leagues of Votann Transfer Sheets (each with 555 high-quality waterslide transfers). The T'au Empire box includes all models with appropriate bases and 3x T'au Empire Infantry Decals transfer sheets plus 1x Vehicle Decals transfer sheet. For both, the manufacturer recommends using Citadel Plastic Glue and Citadel Colour paints. Neither box includes tools or paints, so factor those into your budget if you're new to the hobby.

Which Combat Patrol Should You Choose?

Choose the Leagues of Votann Combat Patrol if you prefer a compact, elite force of heavily armoured infantry with extensive head and weapon options, and you don't mind a higher price for fewer models. Choose the T'au Empire Combat Patrol if you want a larger, more varied force with a vehicle and drones, a slightly lower price, and a playstyle focused on mobility and shooting. Both boxes are complete forces for Combat Patrol games, and the rules are available as free downloads from the Warhammer Community website, so you can try before you commit to a full army.
