Learn how to assemble the Warhammer Underworlds Embergard board game. Step-by-step instructions for miniatures, cards, and tokens to start your first match.
Quick answer
Assemble the push-fit Citadel Miniatures, sort the card decks, and organize the tokens to get Warhammer Underworlds Embergard ready for a 30-minute two-player duel.
What comes in the box
Warhammer Underworlds Embergard includes seven colored plastic Citadel Miniatures, two pre-built warband decks, and cardboard tokens representing tunnels and objectives. The miniatures use push-fit assembly, so no glue or tools are required. The box also contains a game board depicting the tunnels beneath Embergard.
Before you start
Clear a flat tabletop with enough room for the game board, card decks, and token piles. The recommended play area is roughly 2 feet by 3 feet. Have the rulebook handy for the first game, but note that the core assembly steps are the same regardless of which warband you choose.
Assembly steps
- Assemble the Citadel Miniatures: Remove each miniature sprue from the box. Snap the arms, weapons, and bases onto the bodies using the push-fit connectors. Check that each piece clicks fully into place. A common mistake is forcing a piece onto the wrong peg; refer to the numbered assembly diagram on the back of the box. Double-check that all seven miniatures match their warband colors before moving on.
- Sort and organize the cards: Separate the two warband decks: Emberwatch and Zikkit’s Tunnelpack. Each deck includes unit cards, action cards, and objective cards. Shuffle each deck separately and place them face-down on their designated spots on the board. Do not mix the decks. Verify that each deck has the correct number of cards listed in the rulebook.
- Place tokens and setup the board: Lay the game board flat. Place the tunnel tokens, objective markers, and any other cardboard tokens in their starting positions as shown in the quick-start guide. Position your assembled miniatures on their starting zones. A common mistake is placing tokens too close together, which can crowd the board; leave one square between each token for clear movement. After placing all tokens, do a quick scan to ensure each piece is within its starting zone.
- Review the turn sequence: Open the rulebook to the turn sequence page. Read through the phases: draw cards, activate abilities, move, and attack. Since the game targets a 30-minute playtime, the sequence is streamlined. A common mistake is forgetting to draw cards at the start of each turn. Place the turn sequence reference card near the board for quick access during your first game.
